Andrey Santos believes there is only one possible way for Chelsea to respond following the disappointment of Tuesday’s draw with Leeds United.
The Brazilian was part of the side which had to make do with leaving Stamford Bridge with just one point to show for their efforts when we hosted Leeds last night.
Having taken a two-goal lead through Joao Pedro’s excellent opener and a Cole Palmer penalty, we were punished for two errors in quick succession as the visitors fought back to equalise.
Despite pushing hard for a late winner, and coming agonizingly close on a couple of occasions, the game ended in a draw. It was a tough moment for the Blues, but one they can’t dwell on with an FA Cup fourth round trip to Hull City coming up quickly on Friday.
‘Of course we are disappointed with the result,’ reflected Santos. ‘We played very well in the first half and then in the second half something happened, but now we have to move on.
‘Obviously we always want to win, but we have to move on because in two days we have another game.
‘It’s so important to move on quickly because at Chelsea you have to try to win every single game, you have to fight in every single game and get maximum points from them.’
It was the first time the Blues had dropped points in the Premier League since the arrival of Liam Rosenior, having won all four of our previous Premier League matches under his leadership.
Having been a key member of Rosenior’s midfield in France last season, before being reunited on this side of the Channel in January, Santos knew exactly what to expect from our head coach.
‘I talked to the guys because I knew him already after we worked together in Strasbourg,’ Andrey explained.
‘I think he is a top coach, a top person as well, and he asks us every single day to be constant in bringing intensity.’
There will surely be plenty of that intensity on display when the Blues attempt to bounce back from the disappointment of Tuesday’s draw by booking our place in the last 16 of the FA Cup when we return to the pitch on Friday evening.
