Representing Chelsea Football Club, South Farnham School claimed the Girls Premier League Primary Stars national title yesterday.

The tournament, which took place at Leeds United’s Elland Road stadium, culminated with a 1-0 victory for the girls in the final against Brighton & Hove Albion, meaning they went the entire tournament unbeaten without conceding a goal.

Grace, who scored the winning goal in the final, said: ‘I can’t believe I scored the only goal in the final.’

Grace’s team-mate, Millie, said: ‘I love this team and all the great effort we put into everything.’

Earlier in the day, South Farnham, a school based in Farnham, Surrey, had progressed by finishing top of their group, beating Tottenham Hotspur, Southampton, Crystal Palace and Brentford, before overcoming Manchester United with a 1-0 semi-final win.

Sam Durrant, teacher at South Farnham School, said: ‘An amazing day and experience for all the children taking part. Huge thanks to all the staff from Chelsea.’

Also representing Chelsea FC, Latchmere School from Kingston-Upon-Thames made it into the semi-finals of the mixed competition, again claiming a top-placed finish in the group stage before narrowly losing out to Everton in their semi-final.

Joseph, part of the team, said: ‘This was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and I’m so grateful for that. This was one of the most exciting, fun and joyful days of my life.’

Josh Ayres, teacher at Latchmere School, said: ‘What an incredible experience for all of the children from start to finish. It was a great insight into the life of a professional footballer. The children will remember this experience for the rest of their lives.’

Sam Mardle, schools education manager at Chelsea Foundation, said: ‘We are so proud of both of our teams. They represented the Chelsea badge impeccably and put in fantastic performances on the pitch. I’m particularly delighted for South Farnham and their win in the girls’ tournament, another example of how nothing stops us when it comes to female empowerment in football.’
