Sjoeke Nusken feels Chelsea are back on track after putting to bed two defeats on the bounce with a superb 2-0 win away at Tottenham Hotspur.
The midfielder came into Sunday's starting line-up in place of the injured Wieke Kaptein, and earned the official Player of the Match trophy for her display in midfield.
Nusken's excellent work rate out of possession made a real impact and it was her second-half shot which was parried away by Spurs 'keeper Lize Kop, allowing Alyssa Thompson to score the rebound and put us 2-0 up and in control of the game.
‘I think today it was a massive team performance,' said the Germany international afterwards. 'From the beginning, we were there and wanted to be straight on it, especially after bad results in the two games before.
'But I think now we are back on the winning way. We did a good job today and we will keep going.
‘Tottenham are a good team as well. They created good chances, but we put bodies on the line to defend everything. That’s our mentality. The second half was much better with a lot of energy from us.’
On the pass from Erin Cuthbert which led to her strike, Nusken said: ‘Yeah, I just saw Erin had the ball, and I knew she was looking up and would see me. So I tried to make the run, and it was a perfect ball.’
Chelsea now sit nine points behind league leaders Manchester City, and still have plenty to play for this season with a Women's League Cup Final, Women's FA Cup fifth round and a Women's Champions League quarter-final on the horizon. Nusken is up for the challenge.
'We know the situation right now is difficult,' she said. 'But we want to keep going and fight for every single game. That's Chelsea – we want to win everything. So we try to keep pushing forward.’
