Sonia Bompastor believes Chelsea may now possess the world's best goalkeeper in Hannah Hampton, who the Blues head coach says is the 'complete' stopper.
After winning a domestic Treble with the Blues last season, Hampton went on to win the Women's European Championship with England in the summer.
The 24-year-old's impressive form has continued into the new campaign, as she made key saves in our opening Women's Super League victories over Manchester City and Aston Villa.
And Bompastor certainly recognises and appreciates the goalkeeper's role within her side.
'It's really important for a team like Chelsea to have one of the best goalkeepers in the world - if not the best at the moment,' said Bompastor.
'Hannah is a great goalkeeper for many reasons. She's a complete goalkeeper, who makes some great saves for the team, but also in possession of the ball brings a lot.
'She gives a lot of strength to the team. She's really confident right now, not only after last season with Chelsea, but also after the summer at the Euros with England. I think we can see that on the pitch, and it's always really positive for the team to have a strong goalkeeper and to have someone who brings confidence.'
Manchester City and Aston Villa both proved challenging opponents for the Blues – and neither of our two victories were straightforward.
Yet Bompastor pointed to the depth of our squad as playing an important role in helping us start the season with back-to-back wins in the WSL.
'I think this league is the most competitive league in the world,' she said. 'Because every weekend you have a different challenge to face, and the other teams are, first of all, really motivated to play against us. They want to stop our run.
'They also offer different challenges, and we knew going to Villa Park to face Aston Villa would be tough, because they are a really well-organised team defensively, and we could see that in the first 45 minutes.
'So for me, when this happened, it was nice to have players on my bench who can come in, change the game and make an impact for many reasons.'
