With three games remaining in the Women’s Super League, Chelsea need to secure a top-three spot to qualify for Europe next season, and head coach Sonia Bompastor has full belief that her side can do it.

The Blues sit two points ahead of Manchester United in fourth position and face away matches against Everton and Leicester, before returning to Stamford Bridge to face the Red Devils in the final match of the season on 16 May.

Bompastor is preparing for each of those matches as if they were finals, and that starts with a trip to Goodison Park on Sunday.

‘Yeah, of course, I'm confident because I know the quality we have in the squad,’ said the head coach. ‘I know the mentality we put on the pitch to work hard. So, I'm confident, and the players are confident, but in football, you never know.

‘You also need to find the balance between being focused on the last games. We know going into every game it will be a final, and we will have to approach these games with the right mentality to make sure we put in the right performance to win them. But again, I think we have enough quality to be in the Champions League next season.'

The Toffees proved to be difficult opponents back in December, when they ended Bompastor’s 18-month unbeaten record in the WSL with a 1-0 win at Kingsmeadow.

Our defeat came despite us hitting the woodwork three times and firing 30 shots towards goal, while having 64 touches in Everton’s box as opposed to their three touches in our penalty area.

That result came under former Toffees boss Brian Sorensen, who has since been replaced by interim head coach Scott Phelan, but Bompastor is nonetheless aware of the team's strengths.

‘They have changed manager since then,’ said the head coach when asked about facing Everton once more. ‘I have been observing their games, and they are a team who are really well organised defensively.

‘They have quality in transition with the ball, so we know that, and we are prepared for that. I think with the block we had last time, we are also focusing on ourselves. We put together some really good performances. We are confident we have enough quality to go into this block being able to achieve a lot of good things. That’s what I want the players to be focusing on.

‘From the games I watched, they are a really structured team in terms of defensive aspects. They are really disciplined, and they don't give a lot of opportunities to the other teams.

‘I think we will have to be at our best in possession of the ball. They have some really good quality up front, and are a team who can hurt us in transition. That’s mainly the case when we play teams like Everton, so we are very much aware of that.'
