Chelsea head coach Sonia Bompastor confirmed that Johanna Rytting Kaneryd would be fit to play against Arsenal in the Women's Champions League on Wednesday night after she missed Sunday's 4-3 win over Aston Villa.

The Blues lost the first leg at the Emirates Stadium by a 3-1 scoreline last week and will have to overturn that two-goal deficit at Stamford Bridge if we are to progress to the semi-final of the competition.

There was some good news from the head coach about the availability of Rytting Kaneryd, who will be available for selection against the Gunners.

Lucy Bronze, Lauren James and Sjoeke Nusken all trained separately from the group on Tuesday morning, and Bompastor explained that their absence was nothing to be concerned about, and is part of the process during what has been a packed schedule in the current block of fixtures.

'They will all be available for the game tomorrow,' the head coach said of the aforementioned quartet.

'As I mentioned before the first leg, we have different processes, and sometimes when we are playing every three days, some of the players are in different programmes.

'Some of them stay off the pitch, and some of them come later to do a different programme on the pitch. That's part of the process, so it's normal for us not to have seen these players.'

Two players who won't make Wednesday's match are Chelsea captain Millie Bright and striker Aggie Beever-Jones.

While they have been ruled out of our next two games, Bompastor was able to give an update on the timescale for their return to action.

'Both are doing well in terms of recovery,' she continued. 'We won't see them before the international break, but hopefully both will be back after the international break.'

Sunday's 4-3 win over Aston Villa saw Ellie Carpenter and Sam Kerr return to action after appearing at the Asian Cup with Australia, while Niamh Charles played her first game of 2026 after returning from injury.

Kerr made an immediate impact as she netted our first goal of that game at Kingsmeadow, with Carpenter and Charles both playing an important role in the hard-earned victory.

'Yeah, it was really nice to have them back, especially coming into these really important games and big games for us,' said Bompastor. 'It will bring a big boost in terms of confidence, and all three are really important and quality players for us.

'It’s much more enjoyable when the manager has more players available for the game, and obviously, the quality they're bringing to the squad is huge.'
