Chelsea boss Sonia Bompastor believes London City Lionesses will not alter their philosophy when they play against our Women's Super League champions at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
The Chelsea head coach faced London City boss Jocelyn Precheur during her time at Lyon, when her counterpart was at PSG.
London City, who are owned by OL Lyonnes and Washington Spirit majority shareholder Michele Kang, have faced some heavy defeats since they entered the WSL in the summer, losing 4-1 to Manchester City and Arsenal and 5-1 to Manchester United. But equally, they have already picked up three wins over Liverpool, West Ham and Everton, a vast improvement on the recent showings of newly-promoted teams in the WSL.
'It will be really nice to play against London City, a new team in the league,' said Bompastor in her pre-match press conference.
'They have shown their ambitions by changing almost the entire squad coming into the WSL. I know the coach really well, and I'm expecting a top game. I know they will be motivated, coming and playing at Stamford Bridge. It will be a really interesting game.
'It's good to have as many competitive teams in the league. I know Michele Kang quite well, and I know she has a lot of ambition, so I'm quite certain that in the future, she will have a really strong team in the WSL with her club, and for that reason, we can be delighted for the women's game.
'I know their coach, and he likes to play football. I think he'll keep the same philosophy as he did against Manchester City, Manchester United and Arsenal. If you reflect on their results, they had a good start to the season because their first games were tough against strong opponents, and they got really good results against direct competitors.'
London City raised eyebrows with their summer recruitment, constructing an almost entirely new squad after their promotion to the WSL.
With three wins in the bag, Bompastor thinks the new side will continue to grow in confidence and is expecting a tough challenge on Saturday lunchtime.
'They have good quality in the team,' she continued. 'They also have good individuals, and they know they can score against any opponents, so this will give them confidence.
'I think you could see that in their trajectory in the first block of games up until the last game they had in the Women's League Cup, even if they rotated a lot of the team in that match. I now have a clearer idea of what they want to achieve as a team, and they are gelling together better.
'I know most of their players from playing with them or coaching them. So we know what to expect. Our mentality is to try to dominate and control the game as much as we can. Tomorrow will be no different.
'The only thing we need to be careful of is to make sure we are efficient and clinical in front of the goal, because as you could see, when we played Paris FC, we were able to score quickly in the game, and then it gives you more freedom to manage the game in a different way.'
