Sonia Bompastor delivered a team news update on a key Chelsea quartet ahead of our London derby with Arsenal on Sunday afternoon.
The Blues face a big test this weekend as we go up against rivals Arsenal, and Bompastor gave the latest on who she will have available to face the Gunners.
There remains a doubt over whether two of our key players will be fit to start at Stamford Bridge on Sunday. Lauren James missed Wednesday evening's win over Austria Vienna with what the head coach described as a small knock, while Keira Walsh started in midweek but was substituted 20 minutes in, after feeling some pain in her calf.
'It's probably one of the first times I'm not in a position to share a lot with you,' explained Bompastor. 'Because we played two days ago, and we still have a training session tomorrow.
'I need to meet with my performance staff to assess all the players and I'll probably have more information tomorrow before the game.'
There was some good news about another key duo from the Friday afternoon press conference. After a pre-planned substitution at half-time against Austria Vienna, Melvine Malard came through unscathed and will be available for selection on Sunday. Our head coach explained some of the striker's key attributes.
'Melvine was training this morning, so she's in a good place,' Bompastor continued. 'She's in contention for the game on Sunday. It was the plan for her to play 45 minutes. She's still building from pre-season.
'I think she's a player who is really confident now. She's the No9 for the French national team, but she also came into our environment with a lot of confidence from last season and the good season she had with Man United.
'She's really technical and has a lot of speed in the attacking line, so she's a threat for any team, and I think it's good to have her in our squad. So hopefully she'll have a good game on Sunday if she's starting or coming on.'
Naomi Girma is also returning to fitness and was an unused substitute in Wednesday night's Women's Champions League win. Bompastor explained where the defender is up to in terms of her availability.
'Nay is training fully right now with the squad,' said the head coach. 'I think in the game on Wednesday, it was not always easy to bring defenders on, especially in the last 10 minutes where the balls were coming and they were playing direct football.
'But she's doing good. She's training fully. I think probably what we need to get from Nay is being consistently on the pitch, but we are all around her trying to support her to be able to achieve that.
'It's great to have a player with her mentality. She's a hard worker and she brings a lot of quality. So if she's able to get minutes again and stay consistently on the pitch, it will be great news.'
