Goals from Sjoeke Nusken, Keira Walsh, Lauren James, Ellie Carpenter and Lucy Bronzed capped off an afternoon in which the Blues dominated the opposition and responded to Bompastor’s call for them to be more clinical with their finishing following our 1-1 draw with Aston Villa last weekend.

Striker Melvine Malard was missing with injury against her former side, and the head coach explained why Naomi Girma was also missing from Sunday’s teamsheet.

‘Naomi just picked up a small injury,’ said Bompastor. She maybe won't be available for the next weeks. It’s unfortunate, but hopefully she'll be back soon.'

Any frustration from the stalemate at Stamford Bridge last weekend was soon forgotten as we quickly took charge of the match against Man United. Bompastor explained the difference between the two matches and expressed her delight at the response from the players after they were left disappointed not to take maximum points from Aston Villa.

‘I think in this game, the big difference from last weekend was us being able to convert and to score the goals during our strong moments in the game,' she said. 'I’m also happy we started strong and sustained the intensity throughout the game, which is something we need to do when I'm talking to you about the mentality and the mindset.

'You can’t think it’s enough when you are winning one-nil. Not in this league, against all the teams you are playing against. I'm quite happy with the reaction we had from last weekend.'

Playing her 50th match for the Blues and her 100th overall game in the Women’s Super League was midfielder Walsh. The England international marked the occasion with a stunning strike from outside the box and an assist for James in our third goal of the afternoon, and Bompastor discussed how the Chelsea coaching staff have been encouraging Walsh to shoot.

‘I'm really happy with Keira,’ continued the head coach. ‘She's one of these players and leaders in my team who really sets the tone for the way we want to play. She controls and manages the game in a perfect way in terms of how I want the team to play. In possession of the ball, she's really good. We are really encouraging her to take opportunities from the edge of the box.

‘She has a great shot, and she still has more to come. It’s a case of her being confident, and today she was unbelievable. Many other players were also unbelievable. I think even out of possession today we were a good team. The counter-press was good, the intensity was high, and even when we lost the ball, we reacted quickly. We always put the United players under pressure everywhere on the pitch.

‘There are some good learnings for us to take for our confidence, but we're still early in the season, and now it's up to us to be able to sustain those types of performances.’
