Sonia Bompastor confirmed Chelsea captain Millie Bright will be assessed after she walked off the pitch gingerly in the latter stages of our 2-0 win over Tottenham.
The defender was replaced by Chloe Sarwie in the 83rd minute in north London, and the head coach thought the injury was caused by an impact.
‘We'll see,’ said Bompastor, when asked how Millie was doing. ‘We'll assess her. I think it's probably too soon to tell, but she got a big, big kick from the Tottenham player...Hopefully it's not too bad.’
After scoring our first goal of the match just before the break, Keira Walsh was replaced by youngster Lexi Potter at half-time.
Bompastor reassured the Chelsea supporters it was not because of a reoccurrence of her previous injury, but instead was part of her reintroduction into the squad.
‘It was part of the plan with Keira,’ said the head coach. ‘After the Man City game she couldn't train the full week so it was part of managing her.'
Wieke Kaptein was also missing from the Chelsea squad on Sunday, and Bompastor explained her absence. With a few players still out of action, the boss went into detail about how her staff were looking into reducing the risk of injury.
‘She felt a small thing in her hamstring during the week,' the boss continued. 'We didn't want to take any risk from that.
'You can’t only put injuries purely down to bad luck, but when you play for Chelsea, the squad has only international players...These players play a lot of games so for that reason they travel a lot.
'From the intensity in the games, in training sessions, it gives a lot for their bodies to cope with. Sometimes it happens. We also are having a lot of reflection around what is happening with some players and we always reflect on what we can do better. Right now as a club again, I think we are doing our best to make sure we reduce that risk.'
