Sonia Bompastor says our season so far has been a 'dream' but revealed her acute determination to reach even bigger heights in the near future.

The boss was reflecting on the achievement of winning the league with two games to spare in her first season at Chelsea, a triumph which was no small feat in what is her first season in England.

With two objectives still to be completed before the end of the campaign - winning the Women's FA Cup and finishing the domestic campaign unbeaten - Bompastor detailed the team's modest celebrations after securing the title and spoke of plans for a bigger celebration further down the line.

'You know, after the game, we just came back home and the players had two days off, which was yesterday and today,' she revealed. 'The fact they could just be with their family, in their homes, was really nice.

'We didn't really celebrate except after the game in the dressing room, having some nice moments together, and on the way back we had some music and some good conversations. We will celebrate later for sure because it's a great achievement.'

'It's a really competitive league, so just being able to come in as a new manager and to have this really talented squad, and in my first season, to be able to be unbeaten domestically, it's almost a dream.

'I'm really enjoying it. We want to stay unbeaten. We'll try our best to do that. Now, for us, we are in a position where we need to find the right balance between focusing on the last two games in the league, but also the most important game which will be the FA Cup final.'

While last season's title race went right down to the wire, this year Chelsea confirmed their status as Women's Super League champions with two games to spare.

Bompastor thinks being ruthlessly competitive against our main rivals set us apart this time around.

'Probably what made the difference between Arsenal, Man City, Man United and us was the fact we were able to be really efficient and clinical in the games against them. We dropped points against West Ham, Brighton and Leicester.

'We had the opportunity to win every single game against Man United, Man City and Arsenal [domestically]. That's what made the difference. I think that's the first year we have been in that situation - winning the league with two games left.

'This league is really competitive, though. I can't think about one game where myself and the staff didn't prepare for the game in the best way possible. This season has been tough for us, but we had success. The credit also goes to my players because mentally they were strong enough to perform during this season.'

Bompastor has won the title in her very first year at Chelsea, and she explained how she had been able to put such an impressive run together from the get-go.

There were various factors that contributed to her success, not least having the backing from the club itself.

'If you remember when I came, I said this club had already achieved a lot before I joined,' she said. 'My position was making sure I was reinforcing the message that went with the ambitions at the club. I'm lucky enough to have a squad with a lot of quality and talent and to have an ownership who back the women's team.

'I felt supported by the club, everyone at the club. From the beginning, I settled in really well, not only at the football club, but also in London. I'm really enjoying it. That's part of the success, the club supporting me, my staff, and the players.

'From almost the beginning, I felt at home.'

Despite having already won two trophies as well as having the chance to add one more, her sights are set on even higher objectives in the future.

The boss feels like Chelsea have room to grow, but all the fundamental aspects needed to facilitate that are already in place.

She explained: 'I said from the start we wanted to achieve a lot and the Champions League was one of those things. We couldn't this year, but I learned a lot in those two games against Barcelona. I'm really confident in the future we'll achieve even more because I think there is room for improvement at this club, and that's the positive thing. We have already achieved a lot, but we can still be even better.

'It's really nice to know that in every aspect from the squad, the staff, the infrastructures, everything, we are in a really good position where we can still achieve the treble, which is a huge achievement in this first season.

'We just won the title on Wednesday. I could be in a mood where I'm thinking about it and really enjoying it, but I'm already focused on the next one. This is an obsession for me and I think for most of the players at Chelsea. Mentally you need to be tough, you need to be really committed, you need to work hard.

'I'm never satisfied when we win. I want to win by a bigger goal difference or by defending better or by scoring more goals. So this is this mentality and I'm lucky to have players in my squad who have the same. It's really powerful every day in training.'
