Sonia Bompastor insists the Blues must remain positive and look at the bigger picture after coming from 2-1 down to draw 2-2 with Brighton & Hove Albion in the Women's Super League.

Bomapstor's side's unbeaten run was extended to 25 games thanks to the draw against Brighton at the Broadfield Stadium, but they had to come from 2-1 to do so.

Sandy Baltimore had given the Blues the lead after 16 minutes, before Marisa Olislagers levelled the game only six minutes later. Brighton captain Vicky Losada put her side in front just before half-time, but her effort was cancelled out by Lauren James' second goal in two WSL games in the 61st minute.

It means Chelsea remain at the top of the WSL table with 41 points after 15 games played and are now five clear of second-placed Manchester United.

Reflecting on the draw, Bompastor said: 'Of course, disappointed and frustrated about the result. We didn't start the game with the right intentions.

'You could feel the difference between the first half and the second half for us. We were able to score quickly, but we need to realise football is a game about being efficient, scoring goals and keeping good possession of the ball.

'If you want to hurt the opposition, you need to have sometimes more of a vertical game and be able to play the balls behind the backline, especially in the first half.

'We were brave in the build up and we possessed the ball, which is good, but when you have the opportunity to play forward that's where you can hurt the opposition. Instead of playing wide or back, you invite the opposition to press you.'

Bompastor continued: 'I said to the team at the end, of course it's really frustrating and we love to win and hate to drop points, but we have to look at the bigger picture. We are five points clear and that's the main thing.

'We need to realise no game is going to be easy until the end of the season. We need to keep the right mindset and be ready to attack every game with the right intentions.'

Naomi Girma made her Chelsea debut against Brighton and played just under an hour before being withdrawn after going down with an injury. Bompastor was left confident by the American defender's display, but insists she needs time to adapt to the league in England.

Our head coach said: 'She's learning about the league, the team and her team-mates. As you could see, the first game is never easy because it's a competitive league.

'It was good for us to have her start this game, building minutes and being able to play with the team. We'll need to assess her tomorrow, but it doesn't look too bad, but we will see.'

Bompastor also confirmed why Niamh Charles, Guro Reiten, Maika Hamano and Erin Cuthbert were missing from the squad against the Seagulls.

She explained: 'Niamh just got a niggle from the training session on match-day minus one. She was not fully fit to play the game. It's always a hard balance because we have a busy schedule in March and we need to stay cautious with players and not take too many risks.

'Maika just came back from her national team with an ankle injury, so we will see day by day how she recovers and how she feels. I hope it won't be too long.

'Guro came back with a back injury from her national team. She played on astrorutf, so not ideal for players. We'll see. She needs to be assessed in the beginning of the week to have more details on her back injury.

'Erin didn't recover from an injury to her rib. I hope she will be fit soon.'
