Sonia Bompastor was delighted with her side's performance away at Brighton, both on a collective and individual level, as we took a 3-0 win from our final league match of 2025.
Goals from Sandy Baltimore, Alyssa Thompson and an own goal forced by an Erin Cuthbert cross secured the victory, and Bompastor explained why she was so pleased with her players on Sunday afternoon.
'I think we had a complete performance today from the beginning until the end,' said the Blues head coach. 'If you look at the statistics, it will probably show that we were really dominant.
'I'm very pleased with the performance and the result, to be able to travel here and to put on that display. We've scored some great goals, three goals, and a clean sheet. There were a lot of good individual performances as well.
'I think Brighton were in a really good dynamic in terms of results and performances, so they were pretty confident. I think they have a lot of quality in their squad and the way we performed today didn't allow them to show that too much.'
Bompastor made six changes from the side that beat Roma 6-0 in midweek and made use of all five substitutes during today's victory.
Afterwards, she relayed exactly why her approach is important, especially with two further away matches against Wolfsburg and Liverpool coming up next week.
'At Chelsea, we need to have all our players available and to have all our players performing at their best level,' she continued. 'We have many competitions, and it’s important to rotate, to put on some fresh legs.
'We were playing really good football by half-time, so I just said we need to keep going with this quality and patience. But I also said I think we need to improve a little bit more on making more runs in behind Brighton’s back line.
'We spoke about that before the game, because we have the quality and the speed to do that. And when we do that, we can play a more direct style of football, which is fine because the most important thing in football is to win the games and to score goals.
'And if it's not the case, at least when you make the runs in behind, you'll open more space in midfield. That's what we need to create in every game.'
