Sonia Bompastor is not surprised by the impact made by Aggie Beever-Jones in Chelsea's opening three matches of the season, with the Blues head coach emphasising the England international has 'really high potential'.
Having scored 13 goals in all competitions last season, Beever-Jones was called up to the England squad by Sarina Wiegman for this summer's Women's European Championship.
The Chelsea Academy graduate's clinical approach was highlighted at the tournament, as she struck once and provided an assist in just 74 minutes of match action as the Lionesses went on to retain their European crown.
And Beever-Jones has picked up this season where she left off, having netted three times in our opening three Women's Super League matches.
And after attending Monday night’s Ballon d’Or ceremony, where Blues goalkeeper Hannah Hampton received the Yashin Trophy, Sonia Bompastor was asked whether she would like to see Beever-Jones recognised in the future for her contribution to Chelsea’s success.
‘Yes, hopefully for her and for us,’ replied the Chelsea head coach. ‘I would like her to be recognised. She's working hard, and she has a really high potential. Right now, she's fully confident, and that's really important for a player when they want to perform at the highest level.’
The goals scored by Beever-Jones have been vital in the Blues securing nine points from our three opening WSL games, victories that have enabled us to establish an early two-point lead at the top of the table.
It is those decisive moments produced by the young striker that Bompastor values so highly. And she believes Beever-Jones' impressive start to the season is all part of an expression of talent that already came to the fore last season.
‘Aggie is a really important player for the club and for me,' she continued. ‘I'm not really surprised she already had a really successful season last season. She made a big impact in the team, scoring some really great and important goals.
‘She's continuing this journey and this work. It's good because when you want to perform as a team, you always have to have your best players scoring goals. That's most important in football.
‘This is what she's doing, so we are glad for her.’
