Ahead of Sunday's trip to face Aston Villa in the Women's Super League, Sonia Bompastor sat down for an exclusive interview at Cobham in which she discussed Chelsea's ability to attract the world's best players, Sam Kerr's return to action, and plenty more.

The Blues began the campaign last Friday with an impressive 2-1 victory over fellow WSL title hopefuls Manchester City at Stamford Bridge. It was a result that extended an unbeaten league run that stretches back to May 2024.

Bompastor has been crucial to that, but so have her players. The Chelsea squad is one full of experience, enthusiasm, and plenty of quality. Yet there is always the opportunity to strengthen, which is why the Blues brought in exciting United States international Alyssa Thompson on transfer deadline day.

‘The competition is really big now in the women’s game, here in England, but also in Europe,' Bompastor explained in her exclusive interview, which can be viewed in full below.

'As a club, to be able to attract the best players is a good sign for the future and also our ambitions. We never shy away from our ambitions, and it’s really important to have the squad to achieve everything [we want].

'When I talk about the squad, I talk about the quality and depth. So it’s a really good sign to attract the best players in the world.’

Bompastor also discusses the return of Sam Kerr, who was an unused substitute against Manchester City and is waiting to make her official return to action after more than a year and a half on the sidelines due to a knee injury, the diversity of the Chelsea squad, and how she attempts to make everyone feel at home.

There was also a window into her thoughts on the UEFA Women's Champions League draw, which takes place next week.
