It was a bittersweet afternoon for Aggie Beever-Jones after the Blues striker chipped into our 9-1 win over Liverpool with a first-half strike, before being substituted just before half-time with an injury.
The England forward was replaced by Lauren James after 42 minutes, and while she will need further assessment from the medical team, Bompastor was able to give some information on the nature of the problem.
'It’s her ankle, so we’ll assess her,' said the Chelsea head coach. 'It’s too soon for me to have more news. Hopefully, it won’t be too bad, but it doesn’t look great at the moment.'
The Blues have played three away matches in the space of a week, beating Brighton 3-0 in the Women's Super League, before a 2-1 win over Wolfsburg in the Women's Champions League and today's 9-1 victory over Liverpool in the Women's League Cup.
Despite a good run of results, the winter break has come at the right time for Bompastor and her squad, as they can now take the opportunity to rest before the second half of the season begins with a home fixture against West Ham United on 11 January.
'We have got some good momentum, but the players have been playing so many games and travelling all over Europe,' continued the head coach. 'I think the break is coming at a good time. It’s really important for everyone – players and staff – to reset mentally and physically, to really enjoy the Christmas break with their loved ones.
'Every human needs that, so it will be good for everyone to have a break, and we will come back strong for the second part of the season.'
