Sonia Bompastor says every member of her Chelsea squad has a role to play in our upcoming fixtures against Manchester City and believes the return of Keira Walsh from injury is a ‘big boost’ ahead of tomorrow’s Champions League quarter-final first leg.

Our European campaign resumes tomorrow evening at the Joie Stadium against the same opposition we faced in the League Cup final on Saturday.

The Blues came out on top in that encounter to secure the season's first piece of silverware, yet Bompastor has stressed that counts for little heading into our Champions League tie.

'It's a different competition and the context is different with two legs,' Bompastor explained at her pre-match press conference. 'But our mindset remains the same. We will attack the game and make sure we put all the elements into the game to have a big chance to win.'

Chelsea will be aided in that pursuit by Walsh's return. The midfielder, who arrived in January from Barcelona, has missed our previous three matches due to injury. However, she has travelled to Manchester and is in contention to feature against the club she spent eight years with earlier in her career.

‘It’s a real boost,' said Bompastor. 'It’s always positive when players come back into the squad and it gives me even more options going into the game and also having options on the bench. It’s really positive news.’

There are no fresh injury concerns for Bompastor to contend with for the second of our four games in succession against City.

The first ended with silverware in hand and the hope is tomorrow's encounter will enable the Blues to take a lead into next week's second leg at Stamford Bridge. There is also a Women's Super League fixture at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.

It's why with the high-stakes fixtures coming thick and fast, Bompastor has stressed she will utlise the depth of talent at her disposal.

‘I’m lucky to have a really good squad with talent, quality and depth,' she said. 'So it’s important for me to involve everyone in these four games, especially because at some point we will need to have some freshness. That will be important.

'It’s really good to have the depth and quality for me to involve everyone and give the opportunity for every player to compete in these games. My job is to pick the right starting XI in every game, but as you could see on Saturday, also having players on the bench who could bring energy to the game and help us perform.

'So for me, it’s a team performance, but not just the eleven who will start, the ones who will be on the bench and then bring the right energy and mindset into the game.’

Tickets are still available for our Champions League quarter final second leg tie with Manchester City at Stamford Bridge. You can book your tickets for this must-see game on Thursday 27 March here.
