After Chelsea's 34-match unbeaten run in the Women's Super League came to an end against Everton last weekend, Sonia Bompastor explained why she has full faith that the quality in her side will shine through as we prepare to return to winning ways against Roma in the Champions League.

Although Sunday's defeat was disappointing for a side that went unbeaten in domestic competitions across the entirety of last season, Bompastor is now looking ahead to an important Women's Champions League clash against Roma at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday evening with typical focus.

The head coach acknowledged that there are some tweaks to be made to help her side rediscover their goalscoring form, but is certain that things will come good for a team which is packed with international players.

'Even if the result was not the one we wanted to have at the weekend, our job is to make sure we win matches because we want to compete and to fight for trophies,' explained the Blues head coach. 'Right now, what is important is for the players to stay confident.

'If you look at the statistics, I think we created sufficient chances to be in a position to win the games, but it's still not enough because we are not winning them. We need to find the solutions, and I'm the one who needs to find those solutions to support my players in this situation.

'I'm fully confident, I know the quality I have in the squad. Sometimes, when you start to overthink about things, maybe you struggle a little bit more. We need to stay natural.

'We need to keep working, maybe in some more detail than before, and we need to make sure we keep the connections on the pitch. We are going to create for sure, and now it's more like we need a killer instinct in front of the goal.'

Chelsea's Italian opponents sit in 16th place in the UWCL league phase table, with just one point from their opening four matches.

Yet there will be no complacency from Bompastor, who goes through the same steps to ensure the team is ready for every opponent Chelsea face.

'Roma are a team who like to play football,' she continued. They like to have the ball. I think they try to build out from the backline with the ‘keeper. Coming into the game tomorrow, they have nothing to lose, so they will probably come with a lot of desire and want to win, so we can expect another tough match, and we will have to perform at our best.

'It doesn't make any difference whether we play in the Champions League or in the league. Both competitions are at a high level. In terms of process, we prepare for every game in the best possible way we can.'
