Sonia Bompastor is confident that Chelsea have the quality to overturn our two-goal deficit against Arsenal, citing previous inspirational fightbacks in which her side were able to overcome the odds.

Almost a year ago to the day, Bompastor’s Blues completed an extraordinary Champions League turnaround at the Bridge as we turned around a two-goal deficit to beat Manchester City 3-0 to reach the semi-finals of the competition. That’s the task that lies in wait for us later this evening.

Once again under the lights at Stamford Bridge, and backed by the home support, Bompastor believes her group can find another level as we seek to avenge our 3-1 defeat to Arsenal last week. While not underestimating the size of the challenge against an in-form Gunners side, our head coach knows anything is possible.

‘That's the beauty of football – everything can happen, and that's probably why people enjoy watching football games so much,’ said Sonia, speaking during her pre-match press conference.

‘We are confident because that's our job to be confident, as players and staff. We know it will be a challenge and a battle, but if you analyse the performance we put in the first leg, I think there is a lot of belief we can play a really good game tomorrow. Our job is to come into the game with confidence and belief because we have enough quality to turn things around.’

The Blues and Arsenal are frequent foes this season, having already tussled three times already and, as a result, Bompastor is well aware of their threat and has been preparing for a tough tactical contest, including being adaptable in formation.

Sonia continued: ‘I think as a manager I need to be really detailed in terms of tactics and what we want to achieve.

‘I think this team has the capacity to play with a back three or a back four. We are also capable of making some tweaks in midfield and sometimes in the front line. That’s really good for me as a manager to have players who have that ability to change and to adapt.

‘It's more to find a good balance between playing into our strengths but also making sure we are ready for every scenario in the game. So, my decisions go with what I think is going to happen tomorrow in the game.’
