Sonia Bompastor outlined her high standards at both ends of the pitch after her side recorded a 6-0 victory over Charlton Athletic at The Valley on Sunday afternoon.

The Blues fired 36 shots on goal during the 90 minutes, 11 of which were on target, while we also reduced the home side to just six shots in total, with only one of theirs finding the target.

We also hit the woodwork twice and held 71 per cent of the possession in a display of total dominance on Sunday afternoon.

The six-goal victory returned Chelsea to the top of the Women's Super League standings, level on points with Manchester City. It is our record at both ends of the pitch which separates us from our rivals. The Blues have scored 27 times and conceded just four goals in the WSL, recording a goal difference of +23, which works out as 11 more than our rivals, who are currently on +12.

For that very reason, Bompastor stressed the importance of maintaining our attacking ruthlessness throughout the campaign.

'This league is so competitive,' she said. 'Every detail is important. Right now, we are top of the table only on goal difference. We need to make sure we go into every game with the desire to score as many goals as we can as well as the desire not to concede. That's part of our mindset and mentality.'

The Chelsea head coach was also delighted with the approach shown by her players from the opening whistle.

'We wanted to start the game strong in terms of the performance, the intensity, being aggressive, but also with the ball,' she explained. 'We wanted to score early in the game and make sure we were going into half-time with the advantage. I think that's what the players have done on the pitch and I'm really pleased about that.'

The Blues now have five days to prepare for Saturday's WSL clash against Everton at Stamford Bridge, before a pivotal week with an away Women's Champions League fixture against Hacken on Tuesday 10 November and a blockbuster clash with Man City back at the Bridge on Saturday 14 November.
