Sonia Bompastor was frustrated to drop points against Manchester United this evening, but acknowledged our hard-fought 1-1 draw was a 'good advertisement for the women's game'.

The Blues took the lead early into the game thanks to a Wieke Kaptein goal after a wonderful back-heeled assist from Catarina Macario, but the home side soon levelled through Anna Sandberg.

The two teams battled hard for the remainder of the contest but couldn't be separated, and while Bompastor was disappointed to drop our first points in the Women's Super League this season, she felt both sides showcased the quality on offer in the top flight.

'For the fans and the people watching on TV, it was a fun game to watch,' said Bompastor. 'This is a good advertisement for the women's game, so I’m pleased for that reason. If we want to grow the game as managers and as teams, we want to make the game fun for people to come and watch.

'I’m a little bit frustrated about the result because we play to win every game. We played better in the second half, especially without the ball, and we tried until the end of the game.

'I’m proud of my players for the fact that they tried until the end to score that second goal. As much as we have the desire to win every game, I think maybe it wasn’t a bad result to come here, playing in Manchester, one of the toughest places to play. That’s even if three points would have been a lot better.'

Bompastor remains unbeaten in every league game she has overseen since joining Chelsea – a record that has been extended to 30 matches.

And while she could take positives from the overall quality of the match and our performance, the Chelsea head coach remains focused on winning every match and adding to our trophy cabinet.

'I'm not happy tonight even if I'm smiling, that’s because we couldn't win the game,' she said. 'I don’t care about my personal record, I don't care about our unbeaten run.

'The only thing I care about is making sure we get the good results this season to grab the title if possible. That means making sure we have good performances to have even more chances to win the league.'

Bompastor used all five substitutes during the 90 minutes and explained why having influential players who can finish the game is so important.

'I said to my players before the game, when you play against teams like Manchester United, sometimes you get a good result with a whole team performance, having finishers who come in and make an impact.

'I made all of my five substitutions tonight, and I think the players who came in brought good energy and contributed to the game. We created some good opportunities for the end of the match.

'We couldn't score, but I'm happy with the way they came in and impacted the performance.'
