Chelsea Women head coach Sonia Bompastor confirmed Lucy Bronze came through Sunday's Women's League Cup final unscathed, but there was unfortunate news over Nathalie Bjorn who looks set to miss the remainder of the season.

The Blues lifted the first trophy of the season on Sunday when we beat Manchester United in the final of the Women's League Cup and now our focus has switched to facing Brighton & Hove Albion in the Women's Super League at Kingsmeadow on Wednesday night.

Bjorn was introduced in place of Kadeisha Buchanan after 62 minutes in the 2-0 win over Man United at Ashton Gate, but had to be substituted just five minutes later when she pulled up in pain following a seemingly innocuous moment.

'Unfortunately, Nat won't be available for the game on Wednesday, and I don't have any time frame, but it's unlikely we will see her again this season,' confirmed Bompastor.

'I speak with the players almost every day, and especially when they get injuries like that; it's never easy.

'I spoke with her straight after the game, the day after the game, and this morning again. She was pretty low at first, but this morning, she was feeling a little bit better.

'I think Nat is a really positive person. She will focus on all the positives, and that's the only thing she can do. She will receive all the support from the staff, from the players, her team-mates, and we'll do everything we can to give her the best and quickest recovery.'

Meanwhile, Bronze took some heavy challenges at times during the League Cup final, but when asked about whether she had suffered any battle scars, Bompastor was unequivocal in her response.

'No, Lucy is fine,' said the head coach. 'You know she's a warrior, and she will always be ready to go on pitch and to play! She'll be fine for the game tomorrow.'

Chelsea captain Millie Bright has been absent since suffering a contact injury at the tail end of our win away at Tottenham in February, and fellow centre-back Naomi Girma missed Sunday's final after picking up a knock in her final match for the US Women's National Team over the international break.

Bompastor explained both would be missing for our clash against Brighton on Wednesday, but are being monitored with a return in mind.

She said: 'Millie and Naomi are both being assessed, and we are taking it game by game with them. So we'll see if they can be available for the weekend, but they won't be available tomorrow.'
