Sonia Bompastor has confirmed Erin Cuthbert will miss the match against Everton on Sunday due to a concussion suffered on international duty, while Wieke Kaptein is also a doubt through injury.

The squad has returned to Cobham after many played for their respective countries over the international break and are now preparing to face Everton in the Women's Super League at Kingsmeadow on Sunday.

Cuthbert suffered a knock to the head during Scotland's 3-2 win over China PR during the international break and was stretchered off the pitch before being assessed in hospital. Concussion protocols mean that a player who has received a blow to the head must pass certain tests before they are declared fit to play.

Bompastor confirmed the Blues midfielder is therefore ruled out while she undergoes the necessary recovery period.

'The squad looks good,' the head coach confirmed. 'Probably, you saw that Erin got knocked on her head.
She's in a concussion protocol. We'll see for now what the tests she had say. She's in a good place, I would say, but it will take a few days for her to settle down and to feel better.
So, she will have to follow that protocol.'

Meanwhile, Kaptein returned to Chelsea early without taking part in the Netherlands' second match of the international window after suffering an injury during their 2-1 win over Portugal. Bompastor explained there is still a chance she will be passed fit to play on Sunday.

'The other player who came back from international duty feeling some pain in her back was Wieke Kaptein,' continued Bompastor. 'She didn’t train today, she is probably able to train tomorrow, but she is a question mark for the game.’

Sunday's opponents Everton currently sit tenth in the WSL table, having won just once in nine outings this season. Yet the Chelsea boss is not taking anything for granted as we bid to return to winning ways in the league.

‘I think some of their results don’t reflect the performances they have had,' said Bompastor. 'The game against Man City, they lost the game 2-1, but they hit the post and created a lot of opportunities in that game.

'Probably, where are in the table isn’t reflecting the way they are playing, and it’s a team that are creating more and more opportunities and scoring more and more goals. They are also a difficult team to break down.'
