Sonia Bompastor has provided the latest news on Hanah Hampton’s recovery from injury and when Chelsea may be able to have our goalkeeper back on the pitch again.

Hampton remains out of contention as we head into the weekend and prepare for Sunday’s Women’s Super League visit to Brighton & Hove Albion, having not featured for the Blues since picking up an injury in our 1-1 draw at Arsenal last month.

Ahead of our next match, Bompastor provided an update on the goalkeeper’s progress and whether we can expect to see her back in action before Christmas, with three games remaining before we enter the WSL winter break.

‘Hannah is doing well. She won’t be available for the game on the weekend,’ confirmed Bompastor.

‘We are still assessing her to see if she might be back before the end of this block of games [before the winter break]. So potentially we could see her before the end of the block, but we’re not sure yet.’

The Chelsea head coach also discussed the availability of Lucy Bronze, who has been a regular in the line-up throughout the current campaign.

Although Bronze may be one of the older members of our squad at the age of 34, Bompastor reiterated that she has no concerns over the defender’s ability deal with our busy fixture schedule.

‘Lucy is able to play every three days in every competition, every game,’ added Sonia. ‘Probably what people don’t realise is she plays different positions and, depending on the position she plays, sometimes physically the game is easier for her.

‘When she plays the centre-back position she is smart enough to anticipate and to read the game well, for her not to have to put in too much effort on the pitch.

‘When I say that, I think she has a good physicality and she’s able to play every three days, even if she is an experienced player.’

Bronze’s experience will no doubt come in handy for the Blues once again at Brighton on Sunday, whichever position it is being utilised in.
