Sonia Bompastor has issued an update on Lexi Potter after the midfielder was forced off with an injury during our 2-0 win over Roma in the UEFA Women's Champions League – and the Blues head coach also highlighted her side's ability to find different ways to win.
Second-half goals from Ellie Carpenter and Kadeisha Buchanan secured three points at Plough Lane on, but 20-year-old midfielder Potter had to come off after receiving medical treatment on the pitch.
'She picked up a knock on her knee, but it's too soon for us to see how she is,' Bompastor explained. 'She has a little bit of pain, but we'll be able to assess her properly tomorrow and see how it is. I spoke a little bit with the medical team, but I don't have enough information.'
The Blues have earned seven points in three league phase matches so far this season and have yet to concede a single goal in the competition. Bompastor acknowledged that her side can secure victories in many different ways, but felt our finishing could've been more clinical this evening.
She said: 'Tonight and on Sunday, we rotated the team a little bit. Probably the first half was not good enough tonight, and it's always important for us to come into the second half with solutions and the mindset to turn things around.
'I'm pleased with the fact we scored really early in the second half. We could probably have killed the game a little bit earlier. In these kinds of matches, if you don't kill it off, you just leave the hope for the opponent. When that's the case, they have a lot of energy and confidence.
'They were also aggressive in the right way. As soon as we scored the second one, as you could see, it was late in the game, but the match was over. It's important for us in these games to be able to be clinical and ruthless as early as possible.
'But we find different ways to impose ourselves in the game and to score goals. So it's good.'
Aggie Beever-Jones started the match and was switched for Melvine Malard early in the second half. The Chelsea Academy graduate is yet to score this season, but Bompastor isn't concerned about her form.
'Aggie worked hard in her performance tonight,' continued the head coach. 'She created some really good opportunities. She's just lacking a little bit of confidence to put them in the net. She needs to stay confident. She needs to keep working hard.
'We need to keep that connection, analysing the game together and making sure we know what we want to do going forward in the future.
'Sometimes in a career, it happens. As much as you want to score, as much as you want to perform at your best, it doesn't always come like that.
'You need to stay strong mentally. You need to keep working hard, and it will come because Aggie is a good player. She has a lot of quality. Right now, probably the only thing we're missing is the goal. And as soon as she scores that goal, I think things will turn around.
