Sonia Bompastor is committed to Chelsea Women taking an attack-minded approach to the second leg of our UEFA Women's Champions League semi-final against Barcelona, and discussed how the team's mentality will be key for that big match on Sunday.

The defeat in the first leg of this semi in Barcelona was only the second under Bompastor's management in all competitions. For that reason, our head coach is looking to the club's winning DNA as a blueprint for overturning the 4-1 deficit.

She feels that there is enough quality within our squad to be able to face the challenge of overturning Barcelona's three-goal advantage, and emphasised that this side is ready to compete.

'We'll need to score for sure,' Bompastor said. 'So this is the mentality we are going to attack the game with. The mentality tomorrow will be really important going into the game.

'We'll go for it. I think this is part of this club's DNA, but it's also our mentality. We'll be playing at home and we'll try to do our best to be able to be in a position to score goals. But we know also it will be really important not to concede. So that's the big challenge, but we are ready for it.

'We'll have to take risks to be able to score. I know within my squad, I have a lot of talent and quality. The players who will start the game will have to show that talent tomorrow. But I know we are capable of doing that.'

Bompastor wants the team to display more of the values that have contributed to such an outstanding record this season, with the aim of giving the side a chance to win the game at Stamford Bridge on Sunday. In order to do that, she believes that having the right mentality will underpin everything we do.

'It's about showing our values,' Bompastor continued. 'I think this game tomorrow is an opportunity for us to show pride in the game, I think that's really important.

'I think the players and the staff, we are all together in the good moments, but also in sometimes the less positive moments. I think tomorrow is about showing we can perform all together and show pride to make sure we just put in a good performance.

'I think mentality and confidence are a crucial part of the game. Sometimes people don't realise that. Of course, in the performance, you have also the tactical aspects with the game plan.

'You have the technical aspects and the physical aspects, but I think the mental side controls everything. When you have players who are full of confidence, they are capable of anything.

'My job is to make sure they feel the support and the confidence coming from me and the staff because that's the best way we can support them. That's the best way we can see the best version of the players on the pitch.'

There is set to be a big crowd cheering on the Blues at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, with more than 20,000 tickets already sold. Bompastor took the opportunity to re-emphasise just how crucial the fans are to this Chelsea side, especially when we face a big mountain to climb.

'The fans are a huge support,' she continued. 'I think for the players, when it's tight in these type of games, just hearing the fans supporting you and being behind you, I think that's massive.

We are really looking forward to having an electric atmosphere at Stamford Bridge and for the fans to be cheering behind the players to help them to perform.'

Tickets are still available to support Sonia and the team against Barcelona in the UEFA Women's Champions League semi-final on Sunday 27 April. You can secure your seat here.
