Sophie Ingle has seen the women's team grow beyond measure and played a key role in that success across 214 games during two spells at the club. Today it was confirmed the Wales legend would be leaving Chelsea at the end of her contract so we sat down with the midfielder to talk through some of her favourite games for the Blues...

The 33-year-old has built a strong bond with the fans over the last 13 years, after returning from Liverpool for her second spell in 2018. Our supporters have undoubtedly recognised her commitment and she was hugely influential on her way to lifting 11 trophies during her silverware-laden second stint at the club.

Our fans will be able to show their appreciation for Sophie at Stamford Bridge when we face Liverpool on Saturday - which you can buy tickets for here - and ahead of that game, the classy midfielder picked out her four most memorable matches in blue.

Arsenal 1-4 Chelsea | Women's Super League | January 19, 2020

'It's always such a a tough game when we play Arsenal. It's always close, it’s kind of like a chess match. But we were just so dominant in that game. It always sticks out in my head that we went in 3-0 at half time.

'They were three very good goals too. It was special for us to have such a dominant game against them away from home, and for me to score too, which doesn't happen very often! It was special! Scoring a volley like that against your rival team is always going to be memorable.'

Arsenal 1-2 Chelsea | League Cup final | February 29, 2020

'It was freezing cold at the City Ground, I remember that. It was my first trophy with Chelsea.

'You work so hard day in, day out, and to finally get a reward like that towards the end of the season, and to finally be able to lift a trophy was amazing. When I look back and have photos with the medal around my neck and with my friends around me, it feels worth it then.

'You make sacrifices, you miss out on so many family events, or if your friends say, 'Can you come to my birthday party in March?' You're like, 'Probably not. I've got football'.

'Of course, you want to be with your family at times but that's the sacrifice you have to make and all the hard work, it pays off.

'But then once you win one, you want to win more. That's the thing, you're hungry because it's so exciting and it's such a special feeling when you do win trophies with your team, especially a team like Chelsea. To win 11 over my career at Chelsea, it's phenomenal really, and just shows how we have been at the top for so long and have continued to be at the top, which is not easy to do.'

Arsenal 0-3 Chelsea | Women's FA Cup final | 5 December, 2021

'It was just special, I think for me because it was the first one the fans could be there, plus and family and friends could come and watch again [due to the outbreak of the COVID pandemic]. We had gone so long playing games behind closed doors and then we reached the FA Cup final.

'Granted it was in December, which is a bit strange and cold when you’re used to it being a warm day in May, but just to see how excited all the fans were, for them to be back watching football and then to beat Arsenal 3-0, I think that's very special.'

Chelsea 1-2 Lyon (2-2 agg. 4-3 pens) | Women’s Champions League quarter-final | 30 March, 2023

'This was just the craziest game I've ever been involved in. It was at the Bridge in the Champions League quarter-final and it went to extra time. We were losing and we needed to score to draw. Then Lauren [James] wins a penalty right at the end. Maren [Mjelde] steps up to take it, and it's literally the last kick of the game, so if she misses, that's it, we’re out.

'I've never been in a game where the last kick is so make or break! Obviously Maren’s penalty was top bins. After that it went straight to penalties and then for her step up again, because she was our first penalty taker, and do exactly the same for a second time....wow.

'The second was such a sweet penalty and then Ann-Katrin Berger saved one of the penalties as well. We end up winning and beating Lyon at home, at the Bridge. It was just such an exciting, but crazy game. I think it was good for us as a team to finally get over that hurdle of beating Lyon.'
