Chelsea marched on in the Club World Cup with a fine 2-0 victory against Fluminense, and here we take a detailed look at the facts and figures to come out of our semi-final victory.

The Blues beat the Brazilian side courtesy of two thunderous strikes from Joao Pedro on his full debut; the 23-year-old only completed his transfer from Brighton and Hove Albion last week.

Joao Pedro's brace came against the club that had given him a chance in the game, having progressed through the Fluminense academy. It's why he opted to celebrate his opening Blues goals respectfully, but the strikes will live long in the memory.

  • Joao Pedro scored with two of his three attempts, and both that hit the target. He significantly outperformed his xG (Expected Goals) tally of 0.27, testament to the quality of his brace.

  • As a team, we recorded an xG of 1.71 from our 17 shots, of which five were on target and four were blocked. The xG map is below, with our efforts in purple and the yellow dots Joao Pedro's two goals.

  • Overall, we enjoyed more possession than the Brazilian side (54 per cent), won more duels and completed more dribbles.

  • Pedro Neto continued his sterling form at this tournament, registering a game-high four successful dribbles. The average position of our starting XI, shown in the graphic below (No.7), highlights just how high up the pitch he was, looking to exploit the space behind the Fluminense wing-back.

  • Enzo Fernandez created four chances, including playing the pass to Joao Pedro for his second of the game. Fernandez now has three assists in the Club World Cup, more than any other player.

  • Trevoh Chalobah completed all 54 of the passes he played. That is the second most with 100 per cent accuracy by any player in a match at this year’s Club World Cup, behind Bayern Munich’s Jonathan Tah (67/67 vs Boca Juniors).

  • Chalobah formed a key part of what was a solid defensive unit, with his seven recoveries a Chelsea-high figure.

  • We have now scored in each of our six games at the tournament, and are the only side to have not registered a blank in front of goal.

  • Chelsea have reached our fifth international final (excluding Super Cups) since 2019, going on to win each of the previous four.

  • The Blues will contest our third Club World Cup final (2012, 2021, played in 2022), the third most in the competition’s history (including previous formats) behind only Real Madrid (6) and Barcelona (4).
