It’s been a hectic week at Chelsea HQ, with the players landing in the early hours of Thursday morning following our midweek exertions in Madrid and I was granted access to training to see how Frank and his coaching staff have been working the lads ahead of Brighton’s visit to SW6…

Raheem’s impressive record

If you’re asking me to stick my neck out and pick a first goalscorer, then I can’t look further than Raheem Sterling.

Although we’ve been a little goal-shy in recent weeks, it’s not been for a lack of chances created and Sterling is a man who has good form against the Seagulls.

He’s netted four goals in his last six Premier League appearances against Brighton, with one of his five Premier League hat-tricks coming against the Seagulls in July 2020.

What better time to get back among the goals than this weekend, hey?

Kai to return?

While Sterling is my tip for our first goalscorer, you can’t rule out the prospect of Kai Havertz returning to the side.

The German, our top goalscorer this term, was on the bench vs Madrid as Lampard switched systems and went with a front two of Joao Felix and Sterling in the Spanish capital.

Kai has been involved at Cobham this week, so a recall could be on the cards. He’ll no doubt want more goals before the season is out, and if he can get the better of Chelsea fan and Brighton skipper Lewis Dunk at the weekend, then he certainly could add to his tally.

A good sign?

Did you know, Chelsea have never lost a home league game against Brighton and Hove Albion, conceding just once in seven previous meetings at Stamford Bridge (winning five and drawing two)?

Frank Lampard is back in the dugout and he will want to get his return off to a wining start in his first home game, following defeats on the road to Wolves and Real Madrid.

The atmosphere is sure to be electric in SW6 and, having scoped out training this week, there seems to be a real zip about the place as we look to get back to winning ways.

Call me a ‘glass half full’ kind of guy, but I’m fancying goals this weekend and going to go for a high-scoring win in Chelsea’s favour.
