There was a specific moment produced by Joao Pedro against Brentford that Liam Rosenior highlighted after our 2-0 victory – and it wasn’t the Brazilian’s thunderous finish to open the scoring.

The Blues did not have it easy against our west London neighbours. Keith Andrews’ side battled hard and created several chances. A combination of poor finishing, excellent goalkeeping and good defending kept Brentford off the scoreboard.

Rosenior’s side also fashioned good opportunities. Joao Pedro took the first and, with 14 minutes to play, we doubled our advantage after Cole Palmer converted a penalty won by Liam Delap.

Joao Pedro’s goal was his seventh in the Premier League for the Blues. The Brazil international has also struck in the Champions League in his maiden campaign at Stamford Bridge.

Rosenior was pleased to see his forward on the scoresheet against Brentford, but praised Joao Pedro’s all-round performance, which included the work-rate our head coach expects from his players.

He said: ‘It wasn’t just his goal [that pleased me], it was his performance. We went a little bit more direct to take Brentford off the press early in the game and he won every duel. He was outstanding.

‘There was also a moment that made me so happy. In the first half, Brentford were breaking on transition and he's sprinted back 70 yards to make a tackle. That's what I love, that's what I want to see in my team.

‘I said to him – and not just him, all of the players – the harder you work for the team, the more chances come for you, and he took his chance magnificently. It was a fantastic strike.

‘I'm really, really excited to work with him, Liam and Marc (Guiu) as my strikers.’
