Thiago Silva and Kai Havertz’s excellent form in 2020 has earned them a place on the UEFA fans’ Men’s Team of the Year shortlist, with all supporters who vote to help them make the final XI entered into a prize draw.
The duo, who both arrived at Chelsea in the summer, are among 50 elite European players nominated, split between five goalkeepers, 15 defenders, 15 midfielders and 15 attackers.
Thiago Silva, who is the oldest nominee at 36, was instrumental in helping Paris Saint-Germain reach the Champions League final and win their three domestic trophies this year.
Since his move to Stamford Bridge, the Brazilian has looked as classy and confident as any centre-back in the league, with seven of his 10 appearances to date ending in Chelsea clean sheets.
Havertz meanwhile was Bayer Leverkusen’s top scorer in 2019/20 with an impressive 18 goals, four of which came in the Europa League as the German side reached the quarter-finals. He has already netted four goals for the Blues and showcased his outstanding technical ability as he adapts to life in England.
Chelsea supporters can select Thiago Silva and Havertz in their final XI here, with prizes up for grabs for all those who enter, including tickets and travel to next year’s Champions League final. Voting closes in January.
Since its inception in 2001, we have had 11 selections in the UEFA Fans’ Team of the Year, with John Terry making the final team on four separate occasions.
