Thiago Silva believes the standards set by Chelsea during our game against Tottenham will spur us on in the coming weeks, starting with the trip to Elland Road on Sunday.

The Blues put in an excellent showing in our first home fixture of the season and deserved the three points. Thiago Silva, who was outstanding again in the heart of our defence, couldn’t help but acknowledge the victory was snatched away from us unfairly, although he preferred to focus on our collective performance in his assessment of an action-packed London derby.

‘It was an incredible match, a lot of intensity, and we played very well,’ said the Brazilian.

‘We controlled it, apart from 10 minutes in the second half when they equalised. The two goals we conceded were not just. The first was a foul and a yellow card, not an attack for them, and after Richarlison was standing in front of my goalkeeper. He couldn’t see the ball and it went in.

‘However, the most important thing to take from the game was that we played well. That gives us a bit more motivation for the future.’

Before a ball was kicked this season, a good number of pundits predicted Chelsea would slip out of the top four, but the dominance we exerted over Tottenham showcased the quality Thomas Tuchel’s Blues clearly possess. Now Thiago wants to build on that performance with a second victory on the road this term.

‘We started the season well with a good away victory against Everton, a good team. Now we have played really well, controlled the game, only the final result is unjust.

‘We have to keep our heads up, continue to work because on Sunday we have a difficult match at Leeds. We are going there in search of the three points.’
