Upon the conclusion of the Women’s World Cup group stage Down Under, 13 Chelsea players have progressed to the knockout phase which gets underway on Saturday.

Earlier today, our German trio of Melanie Leupolz, Ann-Katrin Berger and Sjoeke Nusken were not involved as Germany missed out on qualification after drawing with South Korea. They will return home alongside our three Canadian Blues of Jessie Fleming, Kadeisha Buchanan and Ashley Lawrence.

This means that from the 19 Blues who were called up across nine different nations ahead of the tournament starting last month, there will be 13 Chelsea stars involved as the remaining 16 teams continue their quest to become world champions.

Saturday

After contrasting passages through the group phase, Japan and Norway will go head-to-head at the last-16 stage in Wellington on Saturday 5 August, with kick-off at 9am (UK time).

Japan progressed as Group C winners with three consecutive victories, while Norway escaped Group A on goal difference after a turbulent start to the tournament. Maika Hamano is yet to feature for Japan while Guro Reiten and Maren Mjelde have played every minute for the Norwegians.

Sunday

Aniek Nouwen made her World Cup debut for the Netherlands, who pipped reigning champions USA to top spot in Group E. Their next opponents are South Africa in Sydney on Sunday 6 August, with kick-off at 3am (UK time).

Elsewhere, our Swedish duo of Zecira Musovic and Johanna Rytting Kaneryd played pivotal roles as the Swedes recorded a 100 per cent record in Group G. Their reward is a date with the United States in Melbourne on Sunday, with kick-off at 10am (UK time).

Monday

Millie Bright, Jess Carter, Niamh Charles, Lauren James and Hannah Hampton are part of the Lionesses squad who achieved maximum points to win Group D. Sarina Wiegman’s side will meet Nigeria in Brisbane on Monday 7 August, with kick-off at 8.30am (UK time).

Sam Kerr missed the entirety of the group stage through injury, but cheered on the Matildas from the sidelines as the co-hosts came out on top in Group B. Kerr will be hoping to feature when her side play Denmark in Sydney on Monday, with kick-off at 11.30am (UK time).

Tuesday

After a goalless draw with Jamaica, wins against Brazil and Panama helped France emerge as Group F winners. Eve Perisset has started their previous two matches and registered an assist in the process. Les Bleues will play Morocco in Adelaide on Tuesday 8 August, with kick-off at midday (UK time) and the quarter-finals the next target in their sights.
