Chelsea's Alyssa Thompson was introduced as a second-half substitute during US Women's National Team's 2-0 win over Argentina in their opening SheBelieves Cup fixture of 2026.

The tournament, which began in 2017, takes place annually in the US and is contested between the American hosts and different countries on each occasion. The USA won the trophy for five straight years between 2020 and 2024, but Japan took the crown in 2025.

This year, the USA will look to regain the trophy as they take on Argentina, Canada and Colombia on three matchdays between 1-7 March across venues in Tennessee, Ohio and New Jersey.

Emma Hayes' side got off to a solid start on Sunday night with their 2-0 win over Argentina at the Geodis Park Stadium in Nashville, but sit second in the table on goal difference as Canada recorded a 4-1 victory over Colombia.

Chelsea's Alyssa Thompson and Naomi Girma were named among the substitutes as captain Lindsey Heaps scored the opener and Jaedyn Shaw chipped in with the second goal of the evening to complete the win.

Thompson was introduced in the 73rd minute as she joined her sister Gisele on the pitch for the fourth time in USWNT history.

The hosts will face Canada next, with the two sides meeting in Ohio on Wednesday at 11.45pm UK time.
