Alyssa Thompson produced a moment of brilliance late on to help the US Women's National Team beat Colombia 1-0 as USWNT claimed their eighth SheBelieves Cup, on a busy weekend for Chelsea players.
The US, who were captained by fellow Blue Naomi Girma, headed into their third and final game of the tournament on Saturday knowing a win or a draw would guarantee the trophy.
USWNT had dominated two-thirds of possession in the first half at the Sports Illustrated Stadium in New Jersey but it was Colombia who created more opportunities.
Girma came off at half-time for Tara Rudd at the break but it was her club team-mate Thompson who would prove to be the match winner in the 82nd minute.
After receiving the ball back following a one-two, the 21-year-old took aim from the edge of the box and arrowed a shot towards the top corner, with the ball rebounding off the underside of the crossbar.
Thompson's match-winning goal and performances over the three games meant she finished the competition as the Most Valuable Player.
'The consistency in her play is standout for me,' said former Chelsea manager and now USWNT boss Emma Hayes. 'Being able to do things over 90 minutes and do it game after game - including a clutch moment like today.'
'She took a chance earlier, and I said, ‘You’re going to get another one,' Hayes added. 'It was a wonderful finish from her, and it was coming.'
Another classy Kerr finish
Thompson wasn't the only player to score this weekend as Sam Kerr found the net during Australia's 3-3 draw with South Korea in their final group game of the Women's Asian Cup.
Australia, who also had Ellie Carpenter in the starting line-up, went into the contest knowing their place in next week's quarter-finals was already secure but top spot was still up for grabs in front of a tournament-record 60,279 fans inside Stadium Australia in Sydney.
Jeon Yu-gyeong’s inch-perfect pass helped Mun Eun-ju give Korea the lead on 13 minutes but Alanna Kennedy turned in from close range to equalise just after the quarter of an hour mark.
Then in the dying moments of the opening period, Kerr gave the hosts the lead with a classy finish from the edge of the penalty area inside the near post.
Korea made a double change at the break and it paid off immediate, as both scored within 11 minutes of the restart.
First Kim Shin-ji converted from the penalty spot to level and then just four minutes later she helped set up Kang Chae-rim, who expertly found the bottom far corner from the edge of the area to put Korea back in front.
It looked as though Australia were heading for defeat but in the eighth minute of injury-time, more good play from Kerr saw the striker hold up the ball following Kennedy's block and the latter then thumped a late equaliser into the roof of the net.
With Australia finishing second, as Korea topped the group by a solitary goal, the Matildas will now take on the runners up of Group B, which will be one of defending champion China and three-time winner North Korea, who play each other on Monday.
Cuthbert stars again
She may not have got on the scoresheet but Erin Cuthbert was named Player of the Match during Scotland's 7-0 win over Luxembourg.
Shortly after Kathleen McGovern had given the hosts an early lead at Hampden Park, Cuthbert's pin-point cross picked out Charlotte Newsham but her header was blocked on the line.
But Cuthbert continued to help her country dominate and further goals from McGovern, Jenna Clark (2), Lauren Davidson, Emma Lawton and Maria McAneny helped Scotland go top of Group B4 on goal difference after two games in World Cup qualifying.
European qualifiers round-up
It was Sjoeke Nusken who came out on top of the battle of the Blues as her Germany side beat Guro Reiten's Norway 4-0.
Nusken played the full 90 minutes at the Viking Stadium in Stavanger, while Reiten was brought on as a substitute for the final half an hour when the score was already 4-0.
The result means Germany are now three points clear of second-placed Norway in Group A4 of the World Cup qualifiers.
Veerle Buurman and Wieke Kaptein both started for the Netherlands during their 2-1 World Cup qualifying win over the Republic of Ireland.
Buurman played the full match, while Kaptein was brought of after 65 minutes, as Lineth Beerensteyn's brace helped the Dutch secure their first win of qualifying.
It is France who lead Group A2, two points ahead of the Netherlands, after their 4-1 win over Poland, with Sandy Baltimore playing the full 90 minutes.
Livia Peng was rarely troubled as Switzerland produced a dominant display to beat Malta 4-1 to go top of Group B2 in World Cup qualifying after two matches.
And Johanna Rytting Kaneryd played 75 minutes for Sweden as they drew 0-0 with Serbia. It means the Swedes are second on goal difference in their qualifying group.
