Xabi Alonso and his squad returned from Liverpool in the early hours of this morning. For those involved for the majority of last night’s Carabao Cup tie, which went to penalties, the focus was on recovery in the gym at Cobham.

Several did head out to the grass to get to work. Among that number were Cole Palmer, who was suspended for the game at Anfield but can play this weekend, as well as Valentin Barco and Marco Palestra, who came off the bench.

There will be a final training session tomorrow (Friday) before Manchester United’s visit, when we will try to return to winning ways in the opening fixture of this weekend's Premier League slate.
