Our trip to the Stadium of Light to play Sunderland is fast approaching and Xabi Alonso continued to prepare his players for that fixture at Cobham today.
The Blues’ final game before the international break is against the bottom-placed Black Cats, but Alonso warned against any complacency at his pre-match press conference. It is a message he will be reiterating to his squad ahead of the game.
‘We have a tough opponent, a tough visit to Sunderland, we know what it takes to win there,' said Alonso. 'We know how demanding it will be.
‘The table doesn’t matter. I think that they deserve more points than they’ve got and it's going to be a tough away game.’
Among the group training at Cobham today were Romeo Lavia, who will be looking to build on his impressive recent displays, Emiliano Martinez, who Alonso confirmed could be fit to play following jaw surgery, and Aaron Anselmino.
