Although frustrated not to take all three points, Trevoh Chalobah believes Chelsea should take the positives from our draw at Brentford.

The Blues were held to a goalless draw by our west London neighbours last night, with the point ensuring we remain occupying fourth place in the Premier League table.

Chalobah reflected on the game as a whole, believing that a solid defensive performance was the foundation for a good away point but expressing frustration on behalf of his team-mates that we couldn’t go on and record another away victory.

‘Playing here last season, we all knew how tough it would be,’ said the Cobham graduate. ‘Brentford are a hard side to face, especially when they’re at home.

‘I thought we dealt well with them and we have to be happy with another clean sheet, which was a positive.

‘They’re very strong and physical up front, those are their strengths, but I felt we dealt with them well defensively. They’ve got some very good strikers, players like Ivan Toney, but I felt we kept them quiet.

‘It was pretty open at times, which is something we didn’t want to allow the game to become because I think that plays into their hands a little.

‘We managed to calm the game down though and play our way. We pressured them a lot, created some chances but ultimately we’re just disappointed we couldn’t get a goal to force a late winner, but we leave with a clean sheet and a point, so those are positives we can take from here.’

Chalobah played in the centre of our back three last night, with Thiago Silva dropping to the bench, and the defender spoke in glowing terms of working – and learning – from players like the Brazilian and Kalidou Koulibaly.

‘I enjoy playing in a three at the back but it’s also good to be versatile, so I feel I can help the team wherever the manager wants me,’ added Trevoh.

‘It’s good to be learning from top players such as Thiago and Koulibaly. It can only help me being versatile, especially under this manager, because he likes to change the players and the formation a lot, even during games.’

The point also maintains Trevoh’s incredible stat of having never been on the losing side when starting a game for Chelsea, something that was pointed out to him post-match.

‘I saw that stat about two days ago and I never knew that it was a thing!’ Trevoh explained, with a grin. ‘It’s good and something I’m proud of, but not something I look at too much.

‘For me, I just want to impress any time I’m given a chance in the team and to give me all to help us get a win.’
