Trevoh Chalobah put the seal on our 5-1 victory at West Ham United on Friday and the defender believes our response to going behind in that game bodes well for the season ahead, when he expects our strong squad to compete on multiple fronts.

Chelsea conceded after just six minutes at the London Stadium as a speculative long-range effort from Lucas Paqueta found the top corner. However, the Blues didn’t allow that goal to knock us off our stride, responding with purpose to lead by the midway point of the first half.

Chalobah underlined the way in which we kept our heads after conceding to ultimately secure an impressive away win.

‘We didn’t start the game the way we wanted but that is football, and you can’t let things like that affect you,’ said the defender.

‘Moments like that are going to happen, and when the opposition score goals like that, you have to hold your hands up and stay in the game and stay focused. We did that.

‘Us getting that second goal in the first half was very important and maybe a turning point because it allowed us to get control. I felt like when they scored, it got a bit hectic, and we needed to stay a bit calmer, and the team did that well.

‘It is a good feeling. It is always nice to get three points, and we were disappointed not to win last weekend, so it is nice to get back to winning ways.’

Hopes are high at Stamford Bridge right now following our fantastic finale to the 2024/25 campaign, including the Club World Cup triumph Stateside.

Chalobah doesn’t believe our shortened pre-season as a result of that success has had an impact on our physical preparations. The 26-year-old is feeling confident about being able to compete on multiple fronts because of the strength in depth of our squad.

‘We have come off the back of a busy summer but the boys are ready, we don’t look fatigued, and we are ready to go,’ said Chalobah.

‘We know the levels we can get to, and we need to show that this year. We have a big squad and a lot of players will play this season and everyone will be important. Having a strong squad like that in different positions will help the team because we will have a lot of games.

He added: ‘Hopefully we can achieve something big. We hadn’t won anything for the past few years so to get our hands on two trophies as a young squad is what we need. This is what we will take into the season.

‘We have to believe ourselves, but it is game by game and then we will see where that takes us.’
