Weike Kaptein's strike against Manchester United and Keira Walsh's winner against Tottenham Hotspur have been shortlisted for the Women's Super League Goal of the Month award for October.

Kaptein's goal is nominated for the sublime, back-heeled assist from Catarina Macario as much as the composed finish from the Dutch midfielder.

An attacking move started down the right flank and saw Johanna Rytting Kaneyrd feed the ball into the penalty area for Macario.

She had her back to goal and was under pressure from United defender Dominique Janssen, but an impudent back-heeled pass from the American forward found Kaptein, who slotted coolly beyond Phallon Tullis-Joyce.

Walsh's nominated strike is very different from Kaptein's. It came just after the hour mark against Tottenham, after Sonia Bompastor's side had spent much of the contest trying to find a way through the visiting backline.

Spurs had just repelled another Chelsea foray into their penalty area, but Ellie Carpenter collected a clearance and passed to Walsh 25 yards from goal. She shifted the ball onto her right foot and then arrowed a low drive across goal and into the corner.

Voting for the WSL Goal of the Month award is now open and will close on Monday 20 October. Winners will be announced on Thursday 23 October.
