Chelsea FC’s fusion with popular culture and fashion has been as colourful as it has been long-established and it takes on a new twist this summer with today’s launch of the OVO x Chelsea collection.
Chiming with this clothing collaboration, global superstar Drake was in our city at the weekend, headlining three nights of festival music, and as he lands the sounds of his Toronto home into the cultural melting point of London, October’s Very Own (OVO) lifestyle and apparel brand links up with classic Chelsea design for another leisurewear winner.
OVO spun out of Drake’s own record label and reinforcing the rap connection between his Canadian hometown and our west London base, local Chelsea fan Central Cee and his crew are captured on film, showcasing the new range of tops, hats and legwear that are on sale today.
Capturing the times and two places
Blues supporters are bound to notice immediately our old club badge for two decades until 20 years ago is taken and given a taste of Toronto fashion, while OVO’s owl brand logo becomes Chelsea’s very own.
Those and other eye-catching elements feature throughout as two iconic and contrasting cities hit the right note together.
Highlighting the theme and cutting-edge design concept is the OVO x Chelsea Varsity Jacket – made in Canada from leather, wool and other fabrics, with embroidered patches front and back.
The OVO x Chelsea Owl T-shirt and Runner T-shirt are two simple designs in a range of colours.
The Long Sleeve T-shirt shouts out the synergy between the cities through the number 6 – with our fabled SW6 London postcode written large and The Six being Toronto’s town nickname.
The collection’s tops are boosted in number by the Rugby Shirt and the Hoodie. The first of those has a white collar predominant with black or blue choices of cotton fabric below. The Hoodie makes a feature of OVO and the new take on the two logos.
There are black and white versions of the Track Jacket and Track Pants and for both of those, blue is the colour when it comes to the trim.
Topping the collection off, quite literally, is the OVO x Chelsea Sport Cap.
