Chelsea’s Lionesses helped England reach their third consecutive major tournament final with a 2-1 extra-time win over Italy, becoming only the third European nation to achieve that feat.

England's tournament began with a 2-1 loss to France in their opening group stage game, but the Lionesses soon turned things around with a 4-0 win over the Netherlands and a 6-1 win against Wales to progress to the knockout stages.

The situation once again looked uncertain for England when a Sweden side that included Blues stars Johanna Rytting Kaneryd and Nathalie Bjorn raced into a 2-0 lead. Then came the turnaround for Sarina Wiegman's side, as goals in the last 10 minutes from Lucy Bronze and Michelle Agyemang sent the tie to extra time in dramatic fashion.

Hannah Hampton made two penalty saves, and Bronze scored the crucial spot-kick in the shoot-out that followed, meaning England were through. Against Italy in the semi-final, Chloe Kelly netted the rebound from her penalty in extra time to secure a dramatic 2-1 win, giving the Lionesses hope of retaining their 2022 crown.

Here's our guide to how to watch Blues stars in action during what is set to be a thrilling encounter against Spain in the Euro 2025 final on Sunday.

Where and when

England will face Spain at St. Jakob-Park in Basel, with the match kicking off at 5pm UK time.

How to follow

The match will be shown on BBC One and ITV1 in the UK, as well as on BBC iPlayer, ITVX, and the BBC Sport website.

The form

After losing their opening match against France, England have won their last four consecutive games at Euro 2025 to make it through to the final.

If selected to start in the final, the experienced Bronze will be making her 36th appearance in a major tournament, overtaking Jill Scott to top the list of all-time major tournament appearances for England.

Meanwhile, Spain topped Group B with three wins from three in the group stage, scoring 14 goals and conceding just three. Montse Tome's side have not conceded a goal in the knockout rounds of the competition, having beaten hosts Switzerland 2-0 in the quarter-final, and edging a 1-0 extra-time win against Germany in the semi-final.

Recent head-to-head

England will be looking to lift back-to-back European Championship trophies after beating Germany in the 2022 final.

La Roja will also be out to complete a treble of major trophies, having run out victorious over England at the World Cup final in 2023 and also won the UEFA Nations League crown in 2024.

The last four matches between these two sides have seen two wins apiece, that run beginning with a victory for the Lionesses in the quarter-final of Euro 2022.

This final will put two teams together that have shown great tenacity and skill throughout the tournament, and with six Blues stars in the England squad, this is set to be a fascinating final in Basel.
