Chelsea Under-18s head coach Hassan Sulaiman wants his side to continue their impressive form and keep momentum flowing with another victory in Saturday’s last league fixture against Arsenal, which you can watch live on the Official Chelsea App.
The Blues return to the pitch after being crowned Under-18 Premier League southern title winners on Tuesday, thanks to a 2-1 victory against Southampton.
Next up we face a competitive London derby as we travel to Arsenal for an 11am kick-off on Saturday 10 May, which will be shown live on the Official Chelsea App. Head coach Hassan Sulaiman remarked on the importance of keeping up consistency within his team’s performance, despite already sealing the trophy.
‘Firstly, we were delighted with the Southampton result,’ said Sulaiman. ‘It was a positive performance from the boys that sealed us the league win that we needed and deserved.
‘It was pleasing to see the boys finally get it over the line as that has been our target for the last couple of weeks. It gives us confidence going into this next fixture.
‘Whenever we play Arsenal, it’s always a feisty fixture, so without a doubt we want to finish strong. We want to perform well as it will keep our momentum and consistency running into the Manchester United game.’
Many of the young Blues in Sulaiman’s squad have already experienced victory this season, lifting the Under-17 Premier League Cup trophy last month. Adding the southern league title now adds further fuel to the boys' drive for more success.
Sulaiman added: ‘Whenever you’re surrounded by a winning culture, it only motivates the players to continue and push themselves further. There will be a number of Under-16s that will participate in this derby and there’s no doubt that they will want to perform to their best.
‘It will be a good opportunity for them to help build on the ongoing momentum that we take into this match from the Southampton game.
‘London derbies are always fierce games, there is no doubt Arsenal will be ready and raring to go. They have had some positive results, as have we, so it's looking like a great game.’
He also feels it will be important for Chelsea to secure a win before our upcoming match against Manchester United at Stamford Bridge next Tuesday, a clash that will decide the national Under-18 Premier League title winner. A victory this weekend would help maintain the positive mentality across the squad and build on our confidence to end the season on a high.
‘Momentum is everything in football and consistency is crucial. There will be a number of boys who will be involved in the Arsenal clash that will also be playing at Stamford Bridge in the national final, so this game will undoubtedly be important for them.
‘We approach every game with the same attitude and hold the same mentality. We want to perform well and have a positive attitude. Arsenal will be no different and we are looking forward to it.’
