Ahead of facing Aston Villa this evening, we have selected six memorable Chelsea moments from previous trips to Villa Park and want you to select your favourite!

We have a good record against the claret-and-blue side of Birmingham since the Premier League’s inception in 1992, winning on 13 separate occasions.

Each of the six moments on our shortlist occurred during several of those victories, and to bring them back to life we have compiled a video which you can enjoy below before choosing your pick of the bunch!

There is additional background further down the page, too.

Flo’s brace in title push | March 1999

Aston Villa and Chelsea both launched surprise title challenges during the 1998/99 campaign, but as the season drew to a close, it was Gianluca Vialli’s Blues who finished the stronger. That was underlined by a 3-0 win at Villa Park, which included two Tore Andre Flo goals.

Nico gets Guus going | February 2009

Guus Hiddink’s first game in charge of Chelsea ended in a fine 1-0 success at third-placed Aston Villa. Frank Lampard’s clever assist enabled Nicolas Anelka to produce a trademark finish to earn the Blues all three points.

Lampard breaks goalscoring record | May 2013

Lampard enjoyed playing at Villa Park – and it was there that the midfielder broke the longstanding Chelsea goalscoring record in 2013. He netted a quick-fire brace to overtake Bobby Tambling’s 202 goals in blue.

Ivanovic rocket | February 2015

Branislav Ivanovic had a knack for scoring big goals – this was another as we closed in on the Premier League title in 2014/15. The right-back crashed home a sweet strike on his weaker foot to secure a gritty 2-1 victory.

When Pato scored | April 2016

We had to wait to see Alexandre Pato make his Blues debut; the Brazilian signed in the January transfer window. But when it arrived in a big win at Villa Park, the striker converted a penalty to open his account. However, it would prove to be his only goal for the club.

Giroud seals happy return | June 2020

The pandemic had forced football to stop in England for over three months. On our return to action – in the unfamiliar time of late June – Olivier Giroud’s goal secured a come-from-behind victory at Villa Park in our first game played behind closed doors.
