The Blues head to Sunderland this weekend for our final game of the season and as our build-up continues, we want you to choose your favourite Chelsea moment at the Stadium of the Light.

The Black Cats’ stadium opened in 1997 and since then we have enjoyed plenty of highlights in the red-and-white side of the North-East in the Premier League era.

We have narrowed those down to a shortlist of seven, with Blues greats such as Carlo Cudicini, Eden Hazard and Cesc Fabregas all featuring.

Watch the video compilation below and then select your favourite, with further context on each moment provided lower down the page.

Carlo saves the day | December 2001

Carlo Cudicini has often cited his performance at the Stadium of Light before Christmas in 2001 as the very best of his Chelsea career. The Italian single-handedly earned us a point by making several sensational saves, including from Kevin Phillips’ penalty.

Carlton Cole’s crucial winner | April 2003

The Blues were scrapping hard to finish in the top four as the 2002/03 campaign drew to a close, but soon-to-be-relegated Sunderland were proving problematic opponents. That was until Gianfranco Zola equalised, and then youngster Carlton Cole snatched a priceless winner five minutes from time with a skilful turn and shot (celebrated top).

Robben’s jubilation | January 2006

Another scrappy 2-1 win was secured courtesy of Arjen Robben’s goal midway through the second half, with his jubilant celebration with the travelling Chelsea fans earning him a second yellow card – possibly the only time a Blues player has been sent off after scoring a goal!

Anelka’s golden boot | May 2009

Heading into the final day of the 2008/09 campaign, Nicolas Anelka and Cristiano Ronaldo were neck and neck in the race for the Golden Boot on 18 goals. And it was Anelka who won the prize courtesy of a spectacular long-range strike during an entertaining 3-2 victory.

Delightful from Deco | August 2009

Carlo Ancelotti’s first away game as Chelsea boss was at the Stadium of Light in August 2009, and a come-from-behind 3-1 success was sealed by a sublime, swerving strike from Portuguese midfield maestro Deco.

Hazard’s pinnacle | December 2013

Eden Hazard produced arguably his very greatest Chelsea performance in a game at Sunderland in December 2013, scoring two stunning solo efforts and setting up another goal in a barnstorming 4-3 win.

Cool and calm Cesc | December 2016

On our most recent visit to the Stadium of Light, Antonio Conte’s Blues marched to a tenth straight Premier League win with a hard-fought 1-0 win, and it was Cesc Fabregas that stroked in the only goal with a typically composed finish from the edge of the box.
