Ahead of Chelsea’s first trip to the Hill Dickinson Stadium to play Everton, we have looked back at some of our best moments at the Toffees’ old ground, Goodison Park, and want you to pick your favourite.
The Blues have played at Goodison more often than any other ground over the years but a new dawn begins on Saturday when we visit Everton’s new riverside abode for the first time.
In the Premier League era the Toffees have shaded things on Merseyside, but we have still enjoyed several iconic moments which we have collated in a video. Get watching and then vote in our poll on the Chelsea Official App here, with extra context provided further down the page!
Gronkjaer seals feisty win | December 2002
Chelsea moved into second in the Premier League table with a victory against in-form Everton. Mario Stanic and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink put us 2-0 up before Gary Naismith hit back, setting up a grandstand second half.
The Blues dug deep to repel Everton’s best efforts and then, after David Unsworth was dismissed, sealed the points when Gianfranco Zola set up Jesper Gronkjaer.
Lampard special preserves unbeaten run | October 2005
Chelsea hadn’t lost in the Premier League for over a year and had won our first nine games of the 2005/06 season, but that unbeaten run looked in danger when James Beattie crashed home a penalty for the Toffees.
However, Frank Lampard thumped in a long-range special to ensure we avoided a loss, with our longstanding streak without defeat finally coming to an end – after 40 games - in our next away fixture, at Manchester United.
Drogba wins it in style | December 2006
An epic tussle before Christmas in 2006 was decided by a bolt from the blue from Didier Drogba.
Everton led twice but were pegged back - including by another Lampard spectacular – before Drogba chested, turned and smashed a dipping effort over Tim Howard’s head to secure a famous 3-2 victory.
Costa starts and finishes 6-3 epic | August 2014
Perhaps our most extraordinary match ever at Goodison came in August 2014, when nine goals were scored including five in ten crazy second-half minutes.
However, the Blues eventually emerged 6-3 winners, Diego Costa starting and finishing the scoring with well-taken goals in the very first minute and the 90th.
Pedro pearler en route to title | April 2017
Antonio Conte’s Chelsea were closing in on the Premier League title when we travelled to Goodison in April 2017.
The Blues were struggling to break down a resolute Everton rearguard until Pedro turned inside and curled a wonderful effort into the top corner, sparking a 3-0 success that put us within two wins of a sixth league championship in our history.
