With a big rivalry resuming at Wembley this Sunday, we have put together a collection of the most significant and most eye-catching goals scored by Chelsea against Liverpool in knockout competition matches.

You can read about those goals and watch them below, and when you have done so, there is a chance to vote for which one is your favourite. By kick-off tomorrow we will know the most popular choice, with hopefully some more goals to be added to this list!

Bobby Tambling - 1966

Clive Walker - 1978

While back in 1966, Chelsea had taken on Liverpool pretty much as equals, by 1978, the balance of power had shifted north to the degree that the Reds were reigining English and European champions and Chelsea were hard-up, lower table strugglers. But then the FA Cup has always been a great leveller and it was levelling hard at Stamford Bridge in January 1978 duing another third-round tie.

A young Chelsea side were 3-0 up within the hour, with Liverpool's goals in their 4-2 defeat coming too late to threaten a fightback. It is Chelsea's first goal, six minutes into the video below, which really catches the eye. Clive Walker, heading to goal from the touchline, catches out England goalie Ray Clemence with a swinging shot from outside the penalty area, and the Blues are on our way!

Peter Rhoades-Brown - 1982

Mark Hughes and Gianfranco Zola - 1997

The goals that kickstarted one of the most famous Chelsea comebacks of all time. Trailing 2-0 at the break, Mark Hughes was introduced off the bench and immediately got one back in textbook Sparky style. Controlling a ball on his chest with his back to goal, he spun and shot in one motion with unerring accuracy. Then Hughes won a tackle on the edge of the box to find Gianfranco Zola, who set himself before crashing a left-footed shot into the top corner to draw us level. Gianluca Vialli completed the job with two more in a 4-2 win, and the Blues would go on to win the FA Cup for the first time in a generation.

Frank Lampard - 2008

Just days after he had lost his mother, Frank Lampard nervelessly stuck away an extra-time penalty to help the Blues reach the Champions League final for the first time in our history. It sparked some of the most emotional scenes Stamford Bridge has ever seen, and will not be forgotten by anyone fortunate enough to be in our stadium on that historic night.

Alex and Frank Lampard - 2009

Arguably the most exciting cup game between Chelsea and Liverpool ever, the second leg of our Champions League quarter-final in 2009 swung this way and that at Stamford Bridge, eventually finishing 4-4. Shown 16 minutes into the video below, there were two cracking long-range Chelsea goals to celebrate amid the chaos, the first a thunderbolt free-kick from Alex that nearly ripped the net out, the second a trademark Frank Lampard strike that went in off both posts and added a fitting full stop to an epic contest.

Didier Drogba - 2012

This was vintage Drogba in the place he liked to call his second home. Frank Lampard did superbly to create a yard of space in midfield and then thread a typically accurate pass to the Ivorian. Drogba shifted it onto his left and fired past Pepe Reina for what proved to be his last Chelsea goal at Wembley - even if there was still more to come in Munich a couple of weeks later...

Eden Hazard - 2018

Even by Eden Hazard's high standards his solo strike at Anfield in the third round of the Carabao Cup in September 2018 takes some beating. Starting and finishing the move, with a nonchalent nutmeg thrown in for good measure, he danced his way through the Liverpool backline before firing an unstoppable effort into the top corner. That it was a late winning goal in front of the travelling Chelsea support only made it sweeter.

Ross Barkley - 2020

Driving from inside his own half, Ross Barkley had the Liverpool defence retreating. The midfielder needed no second invitation to shoot and when he did, from just outside the box, it thundered into the corner of the net to put us 2-0 ahead against the champions-elect in an FA Cup tie shortly before the pandemic struck.
