The winners of Chelsea's 2019/20 Player of the Season and Goal of the Season prizes - Mateo Kovacic and Fikayo Tomori - have both been presented with their awards at Cobham and accepted the accolodes with words of thanks to the supporters who voted.

In normal circumstances, the pair would have taken receipt of their prizes at our annual Chelsea Awards ceremony at the end of last season. However, in light of the Covid-19 crisis and the delayed end to the football campaign, this year's winners were announced online and presentations have been made at the training ground.

You watch the awards being handed over in the videos below, with words from both Kovacic and Tomori.

Kovacic was picked by fans as our outstanding player from the disrupted 2019/20 term and handed the Player of the Season award, presented by Yokohama Tyres, by manager Frank Lampard. The Croatian was a key member of our midfield in his first season as a fully-fledged Blue, having made his loan move from Real Madrid a permanent switch to Stamford Bridge last summer.

Only two players made more than his 47 appearances over the course of the season, a fact made even more impressive by the fierce competition for places and frequent rotation in midfield. He also scored his first two goals for the club, both low drives from the edge of the box, in consecutive weeks in November against Valencia and Everton.

Tomori’s brilliant strike away at Wolverhampton Wanderers was voted by fans as the 2019/20 Chelsea Goal of the Season, presented by Rexona, and the defender was delivered the accolade by captain Cesar Azpilicueta.

The goal was certainly eye-catching as the Academy graduate took aim from distance and beat Rui Patricio with a strike that flew into the top corner to open the scoring in our 5-2 September win. Impressively, it was the young England international’s first-ever goal for Chelsea on his fourth appearance for the club, and only his second start in a Blues shirt.

The award presentations follow those made to Bethany England and Billy Gilmour for the Chelsea Women's Player of the Season and Academy Player of the Season respectively. Click here to see those prizes being handed over.
