New Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso got his first chance to work with his squad at Cobham on Thursday as pre-season got under way in earnest for the Blues.

Alonso arrived at Cobham on Thursday for his first day with his squad, getting to know the players who will be at his disposal during the season to come, including new signings Emmanuel Emegha and Geovany Quenda.

Once the usual physical tests on the first day of pre-season were out of the way, our manager and the players started the hard work of shaking off any summer cobwebs and building fitness ahead of the campaign.

Alonso also took his squad out on the grass of the Cobham training pitch for his first training session as Chelsea manager, getting to know the players and beginning the task of molding the team in his image.
