Niamh Charles is the latest Blue to sit down and record an episode of our podcast We Are Chelsea – and the race to reclaim our Women's Super League title was firmly on the agenda.

The England international spoke to host Caz De Moraes and the pair delved into the season so far ahead of our penultimate WSL fixture against Tottenham Hotspur.

Charles spoke of making the most of our 'second chance' at winning a fifth consecutive league title and why the resounding 8-0 win over Bristol City must be backed up at Wednesday's visit to Spurs, which makes up our game in hand.

The Blues' emphatic victory last time out has given us a marginally better goal difference over leaders Manchester City, who have played one game more and currently boast a three-point advantage at the top.

And Charles knows her side cannot afford to take their foot off the gas.

'It is almost business as usual [preparing for Spurs],' said Charles. 'We know what we need to do. We're aware that we have to go out there and do it. We can't get too carried away with everything. We have to control what we can control and make sure we do everything to ensure we turn up to the game completely ready.'

Charles has had the same attitude even in more difficult spells, with the defender discussing the team's fighting spirit.

'The way we are at Chelsea is we will never stop fighting as long as it is a possibility,' added Charles. 'We were gutted after [the Liverpool defeat] and very disappointed in ourselves.

'If we could go back and do it differently we would, but we never thought it was completely over. We always had hope and luckily we have been given a second chance, but we still have to take it now.'

This season has been one to remember for Charles on a personal note as alongside Erin Cuthbert, the defender has taken on the captain's armband in Millie Bright's absence.

Charles believes it has been a good working partnership as she spoke about how it has been to share the responsibility with our Scot this term.

'We're both really passionate, said Charles, 'We're both competitive and winners.

'I'm number 21 and Erin is 22, so we sit next to each other in the changing room. We do our own things and then we come together to make sure we're on the same page and messages we want to get across.

'Our character off the pitch is different, but I would like to think on the pitch we fight for the badge and have the passion.'
